Access to Treatment

Availability to treatment is not always what it seems. You may think that because you have health insurance that you should be able to get an appointment quickly. Patients often think that they should be able to get an appointment on the same day. Despite the urgency of your mental health condition or your family members’ mental health condition, getting same-day appointments is usually rare. Many times, we hear about patients being put on waiting lists that are up to 3 months long at other facilities. To make things even more difficult, you may eventually find a provider to find out they do not accept your insurance.

SMHWI tries to meet the mental health needs of our community by expanding our provider panel and continuing to grow as a psychiatric practice. Despite the scheduling demands placed on the providers, our front desk staff is consistently shifting schedules to meet the demands of our patients. Our practice has become more creative with backfilling canceled appointments and opening same-day appointments for patients on our waiting lists. Our front desk representatives work incredibly hard to schedule appointments for hundreds of patients and work together to provide the earliest appointments possible. They work diligently to not only schedule appointments but also coordinate your care.

Rarely do we find that when a patient is responsive to provide their insurance information and then complete the needed intake paperwork, that we cannot schedule them as soon as possible. It is advisable to take your first scheduled appointment and then consider moving your appointment up when a cancellation occurs. If your condition is urgent many times hospitalization may be needed to stabilize your condition. If you are feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope sometimes you need to consider a higher level of care first and then coordinate your aftercare to include a scheduled appointment with one of our providers.

Imagine having to schedule 100’s of appointments, manage all the prescription requests, coordinate ongoing care, validate insurance, manage collections, re-schedule appointments, manage medical records. The Front desk staff responsibilities at SMHWI are rarely understood but they are the heart of how a practice functions and we are grateful for all their efforts. He has dedicated his life to helping others and has worked with thousands of people who suffer from addiction and mental health disorders. He is passionate about making a difference in the lives of those he interacts with. Patrick has extensive experience in marketing and previously ran his own marketing company in which he provided graphic design, website development, and content marketing. He is very excited to offer not only his marketing expertise to Scottsdale Mental Health & Wellness Institute but also offer his passion for helping others.
