Psychiatric Return to Work Program

According to the World Health Organization, four of the top 10 leading causes of disability are mental disorders. In the United States, major depression is the leading cause of disability. Over nine million people are affected by major depression every year.

Other most impairing disorders are generalized anxiety, posttraumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive, bipolar, and schizophrenia.

Mental Health Impairment is a psychiatric condition that impairs a person’s ability to perform activities of daily living including social, occupational and interpersonal functioning.

SMHWI specializes in psychiatric disability/impairment evaluations. Our providers work with every individual to reach the maximum medical improvement utilizing the Intensive Outpatient Program, psychopharmacology, and individual counseling. We understand the complexity of temporary partial, temporary total and permanent partial and permanent total disability. Our psychiatrists are well versed in utilizing the AMA psychiatric disability rating guides.

Under the Americans with Disability Act, employers have an obligation to provide reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities. Our psychiatrists can evaluate the employee’s limitations and offer specific reasonable accommodations to the employers.
