Alcohol addiction, also known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), is an issue for millions of men and women across the United States. Complicated and incredibly difficult to stop, AUD is classified as a chronic brain disease. Like many other forms of addiction, it impacts all aspects of life. It may lead to problems at work, home or school as well as disrupting relationships with family and friends.

Although this disease can be destructive, it can also be successfully treated.

Comprehensive AUD Treatment

Generally, alcohol addiction treatment requires a personalized plan to fit the afflicted person’s short- and long-term recovery goals. That plan might entail medically supervised detox, psychiatric support and peer support programs. Here at Scottsdale Mental Health and Wellness Institute (SMHWI), we support those afflicted with AUD for each and every step down their unique road to recovery.

SMHWI takes a comprehensive approach to treatment. Depending on severity, treating the addiction may begin with inpatient services at our center for alcohol rehab in Arizona. Our staff closely monitors your physical responses to withdrawal and may administer medication to help you through the detox period.

We also offer alcohol counseling in various settings as part of the treatment. These sessions could be on an individual level or consist of group and family therapy. Such opportunities to discuss important topics can be very constructive to you and your recovery. We also have alternative therapies to fill your time in an active, healthy and productive way. You can choose to participate in yoga as well as art, music and pet therapy.

Part of our approach is to instruct you on identifying bad habits and ignoring triggers through relapse prevention strategies. Developing these strategies often entails health and wellness coaching, psychiatric support and medication management (if needed). We want you to know you are not alone on this journey and we’ll do all that we can to help you combat this disease.

Outpatient Alcohol Treatment

SMHWI offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as well. Specifically designed to assist individuals with mental health issues and substance use disorders, this course of outpatient alcohol treatment does not require the patient to be checked into a rehab center or hospital. Instead, it combines an outpatient psychotherapeutic approach with psychiatric care through medication in an intensive timeframe.

The goal of our outpatient alcohol rehab is to help you reach maximum medical improvement in short time. The program typically runs three hours a day on three days of the week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) for a total of 8 weeks. During this time, we’ll help you develop coping skills and insightful strategies to manage the disease, maintain growth and enable healing in your life.

SMHWI can also connect patients with an online psychiatrist through our online treatment solutions.

Dual-Diagnosis Treatments

Alcohol addiction treatment often coincides with treatment for dual diagnosis. Frequently related to AUD, this condition is characterized by having a mental illness as well as a comorbid substance use disorder. In other words, it’s the use of alcohol to cope with common health issues such as:
